2 Lies and a Truth Examples and Ideas

Everything you need for a great round of Two Lies and a Truth (1 truth, 2 lies): example rounds to guess, surprising truths, believable lies, and a Lie Lab that checks your set.

Lie Lab

Write it · check your lie · send it

Game

Tip: tap + Use on any idea on this page to drop it into the next empty slot.

In Two Lies and a Truth, the hard part is the lies: you need two of them, and they have to sound just as real as your one truth. The best sets use a truth that sounds a little unlikely and two lies that sound perfectly ordinary, so the group talks itself out of picking the real one.

Use the Lie Lab above: it is already set to 2 lies and a truth. Mark your truth, add two lies (tap + Use on any idea below, or let “Make one up” invent one), and the believability meter tells you if your truth stands out. When it looks balanced, send it to a friend as a challenge link.

New to this version? The rules and a playable Party Mode are on the main Two Lies and a Truth page.

How to write a great 2 lies and a truth set

    • Pick a truth that sounds a little unlikely. The weirder it sounds, the more people will call it a lie.
    • Make both lies ordinary and specific. A detail such as a place, a number or a name makes a lie feel remembered.
    • Keep all three the same size. Similar length and the same way of starting (“I’ve…”, “I once…”) hide the truth best.
    • Avoid giveaway words in the lies: “never”, “famous” and “million” are the first things people doubt.
    • Test it in the Lie Lab above: mark your truth and read the tips before you play or send it.

2 lies and a truth ideas: FAQ

What are some good 2 lies and a truth examples?

Pair one surprising truth, such as “I have a fear of feathers”, with two ordinary lies like “I’ve been to Morocco” and “I once won a surfing contest.” The 50 example rounds on this page show the pattern.

What are good ideas for 1 truth and 2 lies?

For the truth, use an odd habit, an unusual trip or a strange childhood memory. For the lies, use believable, hard-to-check claims: a country, a small skill or a school activity. See the two lists above.

How do I make my lies sound true?

Give them one specific detail, keep them the same length as your truth, and avoid extreme words. The Lie Lab above checks all of this.

Can I send a 2 lies and a truth challenge to a friend?

Yes. Build your set in the Lie Lab, mark your truth, add your first name and tap “Create challenge link”. Your friend picks the truth and sees the reveal.
